The Call The Wind Maria....er, Fay

Tropical Storm Fay passed through the Florida Keys last night doing little damage but dropping quite a bit of rain. I really didn't expect her to do much anyway as she really didn't have any time over warm waters to build any strength. The good thing is that there was no major damage. The bad thing is that we had to watch reporters standing in a light drizzle giving live reports of a non-event as cars and passersby went past with a business-as-usual air of nonchallance.

The weakness of the storm notwithstanding, it is not a wise move to venture out into any kind of inclement weather, especially in Florida, the lightning capital of America. Add to that the possibility of a hurricane force gust of wind and you have the makings of a really bad situation.

Witness the case of a young man who was stupidly out in the above described weather attempting to kite surf in the area of Fort Lauderdale beach. A strong gust of wind took him up about 50 feet into the air and slammed him to the beach. Another gust then picked him up again, took him across the street and into the side of an expressway, critically injuring him.

It's just a matter of time before one of these mindless media reporters is dragged across a parking lot or impaled by a piece of debris while trying to be a part of the obnoxious "breaking news" stories that we are subjected to on a daily basis.

The Pictures: Kewt Kids and animals, bumper stickers I'd like to see more of and the usual suspects make up today's eclectic photos.

Glad you are safe darling!

I didn't have my friend Johnny Walker Red to help calm my nerves when the News announced a Tornado Urgent Watch coming directly at Boca Raton and Delray Beach.  GO TO YOUR SAFE AREA!  WHAT??? REPEAT THAT???  GO TO YOUR SAFE AREA NOW!

I went into panic mode and went into my safe place.....guest bath with a bottle of wine and a ham and cheese sandwich, a cupcake and a lantern, a blanket and a pillow.....this was around 2:00 AM.................

Of course, I was unable to sleep all night long.  I was so grateful not to lose power because I cannot breath without A/C.

What am I doing living in South Florida????  I hate the heat, my nerves are always on edge during hurricane season............I'm a mess!  I miss Boston!

Hugs, Rose

I still miss Groucho and love it when certain channels play his tv show. (Say the secret word and win a hundred dollars.)  I also am old enough to remember L'll Abner.  Loved the pictures too.   Anne

I guess the people in Haiti and other islands got the worst of it.  I heard a horror story today from as friend who took the Mexican Rivera cruise in October several years ago (the same time we're taking it this year) and got caught in a hurricane. I know one thing~I'm buying some Bonine for this cruise.    Glad you guys are ok.  Linda in Washington
