Have You Finished Your Holiday Shopping?

The remaining days grow short and yet, how many of you are not finished with your Christmas Shopping? How many of you haven't really even begun, huh? Although it's fun to give gifts to friends and loved ones, it's a pain to buck the crowds in the malls.

Here's a quick gauge and synopsis for you. If you began your shopping earlier this year, you're probably finished and full of yourself for accomplishing that feat. You shopped leisurely with ladies and gentlemen. You overflow with the Christmas spirit.

If you're normal, you may be almost finished, but have a few unfinished items to take care of, including the most important gift that you'll buy. You'll shop at a faster pace with men and women who are also somewhat in a hurry to finish. You still finish with time to spare and after a few glasses of wine in the evening, you will renourish the Christmas spirit within you.

For the rest of us, we'll arrive at the mall and find that the parking spot closest to the mall requires a half day's trek and an Indian guide to lead the way to and from the mall. Once inside, males and females growl at each other as they sort through the left-over and odd sized items left behind by the people that we hate and refer to in the previous paragraphs (said personna having completed their shopping). We'll finally get the shopping done, assuming that we're not robbed or murdered by the scum of society who prey on late shoppers leaving the mall. Later that evening, we'll drink about a half bottle of whatever Christmas Spirit is available and swear that we will not wait until the last minute, next year.

Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months in prison today for his role in the dog gambling conspiracy and the cruel killing of dogs. The sentence could have been longer and Vick was fortunate for the sentence he received. It cannot be appealed per the plea agreement which Vick signed. This sentence, along with millions of dollars in lost salary and endorsements, should be a strong signal that the public will not stand for this type of behavior and cruelty.

The Pictures: Some pastoral scenes along with a few interesting insects and whatnot whose colors moved me to acquire them. As always, there's a few ringers today and rhetorically, the usual suspects.

This Date In History: 1869; Wyoming becomes the first state to adopt woman suffrage. 1898; In France, the Treaty of Paris is signed, ending the Spanish-American War and granting the United States its first overseas empire. 1901; The first Nobel Prizes are awarded in Stockholm, Sweden, in the fields of physics, chemistry, medicine, literature and peace. 1902; The Aswan Dam on the Nile River in Egypt officially opens, having been started in 1898.

Birthdays: Cesar Franck, composer and organist (1822), Emily Dickinson, poet (1830), Melville Dewey, American Librarian and educator (1851).

The Hits Just Keep On Coming:

There will be no Nativity Scene in the United States Congress, this year! The Supreme Court has ruled that there cannot be a Nativity Scene in the United States capital this Christmas season.

This isn't for any religious reason, they simply have not been able to find three wise men and a virgin in the Nation's capitol. There was no problem, however, finding enough asses to fill the stable.

That's it for today, my little credit card abusers. More tomorrrow.

Stay Tuned !

I'm one of those who finish my shopping early. I shop for all of my grandkids
'stuff" from their Dad and Santa. I put up my tree very early, because we leave for the southwest before Christmas and have our time with your Grandkids early.  I love the time between Christmas and New Years.  That is when I can truely enjoy myself.  I hope you find the perfect gift for yourself........aren't they the best kind?  (I think so!)    Anne

Don't hate me...but yeah, I'm pretty much done. I do NOT do the mall crawl, though. I shop all year, but only online--a few extra bucks for shipping is a small price to pay for the mental anguish I would experience if I actually went to the mall. <shudder> God bless the 'Net, and God bless us, everyone!

Don't hate me because I'm finished, but love me because I sent you an angel to watch over you while you finish! <grin>

We do all our shopping before Thanksgiving---a check for each kid, kid-in-law and grandkids! They have to tell us what they bought and those letters are coming in now!!  Barb

As per usual I love your pictures. As for where I fall in the holiday shopping riots.....Sad to say but last minute. Today is just an example of why, I have a very nosy partner and a small house. Try hiding anything from someone going through his second childhood.....your asking for the impossible. He found a very expensive $60 Guitar Amp book and it's not even Christmas yet. So I'm not even going to get anything else until close to Christmas Eve. That way it will be wrapped right away and I don't have to worry about hiding spots.

As for Michael Vick, I'm in agreement with you. He didn't get enough time for the cruelty he displayed. What exactly are they saying to other animal abusers? It's a piece of cake to do the time so go ahead and beat the daylights out of your pet?
