Autumn Leaves

From the golden voice of Nat King Cole comes the lyrics to one of my signature songs befitting the season....

The falling leaves, drift by the window
The autumn leaves of red and gold
I see your lips, the summer kisses
The sun-burned hands, I used to hold

Since you went away, the days grow long
And soon I'll hear, old winter's song
But I miss you most of all, my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall

The breeze is blowing gently, escorting a light chill along its way, and encourages one to walk along a sandy beach and reminisce. Autumn is here in its full glory and the evenings are beginning to call for a sweater or a light jacket.

It's a romantic time of year, with Thanksgiving looming in the distance, followed closely by the Christmas season. It brings back memories of seasons past and the people that I shared them with. I look foward to this time of year simply for those reasons.

The Pictures: My pal, Anne, sent me these pictures of the change of seasons. The colors and hues are amazing and the subject matter is excellent. I wanted to add a few more from my pal, Nancy's, collection but my dial-up computer huffed and puffed so much to download these that I realized that I had better leave well enough alone.

This Date In History: 1793; Originally constructed as a royal residence in the early 13th century, the Louvre opens as a museum in Paris. 1864; U.S. president Abraham Lincoln, is re-elected. 1932; Franklin D. Roosevelt becomes the 32nd president of the United States. 1942; British and U.S. forces invade Nazi-occupied North Africa.

Birthdays: Edmund Halley, British astronomer (1656), Margaret Mitchell, novelist and author of "Gone With The Wind" (1900), Christiaan Barnard, South African surgeon (1922).

In Miami, the change of seasons is more subtle than in the north. We don't have the bright leaf changes, but the Cubans do start wearing brighter clothes and they paint the coconuts orange. It suffices.

I remembered a word today that I always liked. It's "fugly". This little gem has been used by man and woman alike, descriptively. It's sorta like when they try to set you up for a blind date with your friend's wife's sister. You ask the wife what her sister looks like and she says, "She's a sharp dresser" or "She can really dance well". Then you "eyeball" your friend over his wife's shoulder and he silently mouthes the word "fugly". It's a good word and even better when you know how it's used.

Just A Note: Never fry bacon in the nude !

I love Nat King Cole.  He had/has perfect pitch and diction.  He would be mortified with the rap music of today.  Classy man!  Do you remember he even had a television show for a brief while.  Love Nalalie too!   Anne
