They Said, "Cheer Up, Things Could Be Worse." So, I Cheered Up, And Sure Enough, Things Got Worse !

My Wednesday evening foray into socialville did not go very well. I had a plan (I always have a plan), but Johnny Walker Black, my constant companion in AREA 51 for some unknown reason, brought along his friend, Murphy, a well known authority on law. So far, so good, huh?

Well, my friend, Emilio (of domino fame), called and invited me to his house for cocktails. We decided to make a quick run to the store to stock up on spirits, with the notion that we'd have couple of cocktails at home and then slide on over to Lakes Cafe for a little R&R.

We purchased a few bottles at the store and headed back to Emilio's house. That's when it happened ! A noise not normally heard from my Cadillac echoed throughout the car and I pulled over to check it out. The clutch that drives the air-conditioning had broken. Cute, huh? We drove on to Emilio's house, parked the car and decided that Lakes Cafe was out of the question.

So we opted for alternate plan B, cocktails and dominos. I did not see the paperboy when I got home, so it wasn't 5:00. My car's still at Emilio's and my mechanic will hopefully fix it on Monday. In the interim, I'll be riding with either Emilio or one of my lady friends until then. Bottom line... I'll Live !

One good thing did happen, however. I had been looking to buy a printer and I mentioned it to Emilio. He said, "Let me check my garage, I may have one." He did ! Better still, it was a Dell "three in one" printer, scanner and copier, still sealed in the box. Cost of new copier....Free. Value of a good friend....Priceless !

The Pictures: My pal, Gipsy, sent me some great pictures of coffee art. I think you'll find these pic's interesting.

This Date In History: 1781; German-born English astronomer William Herschel discovers the planet Uranus. Authors-Note: Uranus has been demoted and is no longer classified as a planet. I personally still consider Uranus a planet, with an orbiting moon named Hemorrhoid. After reviewing William Herschel's astronomy credentials, I have determined that he is correct in his discovery and therefore you can trust Uranus. 1868; The impeachment trial of President Andrew Johnson begins. Johnson is the first United States president to be impeached. 1881; Alexander II, emperor of Russia, is assassinated by a bomb thrown into his carriage. 1961; The Spanish painter Pablo Picasso, age 79, marries Jacqueline Roque, age 37. When asked about health concerns, including a possible stroke or heart attack, Picasso responded, "If she dies, she dies !"

Birthdays: Joseph Priestly, British chemist who discovered oxygen (1733), Percival Lowell, astronomer (1855), Hugo Wolf, Austrian composer (1860).

The Hits Just Keep On Coming: My pal, Garnett, sent me the following....

The Irish

Brenda O'Malley is home making dinner, as usual, when Tim Finnegan arrives at her door. "Brenda, may I come in?" he asks,
"I've something' to tell you."

Brenda says, " Of course, Tim, where's my husband?" Tim says, "Mary, there's been an accident down at the Guinness brewery. Your husband, Shamus, is dead and gone....I'm sorry." Brenda hung her head in silence.

Finally, she looked up at Tim and asks, "How did it happen, Tim?" Tim replied, "It was terrible. He fell into a vat of Guinness Stout and drowned."

Brenda said, "Oh my lord, well at least he went quickly." Tim replied, "Well....no, Brenda, in fact, he got out three times to pee."

A drunk staggers into a Catholic Church, enters the confessional booth, sits down, but says nothing. The Priest coughs a few times to get his attention, but the drunk continues to sit there in silence.

Finally, the Priest pounds three times on the wall. The drunk says, "Ain't no use knocking buddy, there ain't no toilet paper on this side, either ! "

That's it for today my little corn huskers. More tomorrow.

Stay Tuned !
