Pearl Harbor - Remembering Our Soldiers

On Dec 7, 1941, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, killing more than 2,300 soldiers and civilians and injuring many more. The unprovoked attack woke up a sleeping giant and came to an end in 1945 when Japan surrendered to America after two devastating H-bomb drops on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Today is a day to remember the men and women, both past and present, of our armed forces.

Why Is Rep. Mike Rogers Stepping Down From Office?

Suppose you were Chairman of The House Intelligence Committee and it was your job to investigate what happened in Benghazi. What if your wife were the CEO of the very company contracted to provide that security? Would that not be a rather glaring conflict of interest?

Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), as Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, is charged with investigating the adequacy of security at the Benghazi compound prior to the September 11, 2012 terrorist attack. Rogers has announced recently, and rather abruptly, that he will be stepping down from representing Michigan in 2014 to host a national radio show syndicated by Cumulus Media.

His wife, Kristi Clemens Rogers was the president and the CEO of the company that was contracted by the State Department to provide that security. Mrs. Rogers, until recently, served as president and CEO of Aegis LLC, the contractor to the United States Department of State for intelligence-based and physical security services.

Aegis, a British private military company with overseas offices in Afghanistan, Bahrain, Iraq, Kenya, Nepal and the U.S., won a $10 billion, 5-year contract with the State Department to provide security for U.S. diplomatic posts around the world.

Congressman Rogers, has been criticized for dragging his feet in the Benghazi investigation. Only when pressure from backbenchers on his committee became intense did he agree to hold a hearing at which former Deputy CIA Director Mike Morrell testified.

Even then, observers noted how mild he was in his questioning, preferring to let Congressmen Peter King, R-N.Y., and Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., take the lead in asking the tough questions.

How on earth can the Rogers family justify having a husband who chairs a Congressional committee charged with reviewing the performance of his wife’s company in guarding the Benghazi compound?

Demands for a special select committee to investigate Benghazi have been heard ever since the attack took place, but now that the Rogers’ conflict of interest is exposed, they are likely to escalate.

The accusations of conflict of interest surface at the same time as the Inspector General for the State Department reported that $6 billion in department contracts, largely in Afghanistan and Iraq, couldn’t be accounted for. The contracts covering the work have disappeared.

Obie Goes To The Bank

Obama walks into a local bank in Chicago to cash a check. He is surrounded by Secret Service agents. As he approaches the cashier he says, "Good morning Ma'am, could you please cash this check for me?" The cashier says, "It would be my pleasure sir. Could you please show me your ID?"

Obama said, "Truthfully, I did not bring my ID with me as I didn't think there was any need to. I am President Barack Obama, the President of the United States of America !"

The cashier says, "Yes sir, I know who you are, but with all the regulations and monitoring of the banks because of 9/11, impostors, forgers, money laundering and bad mortgage underwriting, not to mention requirements of the Dodd/Frank legislation, et cetera, I must insist on seeing ID."

Obama says, “Just ask anyone here at the bank who I am and they will tell you. Everybody knows who I am." The cashier says "I am sorry Mr. President but these are the bank rules and I must follow them." Obama says "I am urging you, please, to cash this check. I need to buy a gift for Michelle for Valentine’s Day"

The cashier says, "Look Mr. President, here is an example of what we can do. One day, Tiger Woods came into one of our bank branches without ID. To prove he was Tiger Woods he pulled out his putter and made a beautiful shot across the bank into a coffee cup. With that shot we knew him to be Tiger Woods and cashed his check."

The cashier continued, "Another time, Andre Agassi came into the same place without ID. He pulled out his tennis racquet and made a fabulous shot where as the tennis ball landed in a coffee cup. With that shot we cashed his check. So, Mr. President, what can you do to prove that it is you, and only you, as the President of the United States?"

Obama stands there thinking, and thinking, and finally says, "Honestly, my mind is a total blank...there is nothing that comes to my mind. I can't think of a single thing. I have absolutely no idea what to do and I don’t have a clue"

The cashier says, "Will that be large or small bills, Mr. President?"

My Thanks to my friend Buddy for his contribution to today's story.

Slow Motion Video Of The Tony Stewart - Kevin Ward Incident Suggests Ward Grabbed Stewart's Wing

A story from TWC News in Rochester reports that investigators have now reviewed two videos of they incident involving Tony Stewart and Kevin Ward Jr. Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero said in the story that there are two different angles of Ward walking on the track after a crack at turn two on the 14th lap and then being hit by Stewart's winged sprint car.

Investigators still say that there are no facts to support criminal behavior or conduct, or probable cause in the crash. They emphasized, however, that the investigation is open.

Sprint car driver Cory Sparks has come forward with his side of the story, telling about the angle he witnessed of the event. Sparks said, "From what I saw, Tony did everything in his power to turn down away from Kevin to avoid him. People say that they heard the engine rev up and he gassed it. In a sprint car, the only way to steer is you steer with the rear wheels as much as you do the steering wheel. In my opinion, what he did was he gassed it to turn down away from him."

Sparks also noted in the article that the videos posted online don't give an accurate portrayal of what happened. There was no video in Stewart's car.

This is a slow motion video of the Tony Stewart - Kevin Ward incident. It looks like he jumped up and grabbed Stewart's wing, lost his grip and then fell. Watch around the 11 second mark!

Multiple sources report that an autopsy conducted by the Ontario County coroner found that Ward's cause of death to be massive blunt trauma.

The general media has analyzed this incident from every angle, the majority of whom are totally ignorant of sprint car racing and racing in general.

Most respected reporters have acknowledged the fact that they don't know enough about the sport to give an opinion. There are, however, the usual assholes that will give their opinion whether they are knowledgeable or not.

More than 40 journalism groups urge president to stop excessive controls on public information

INDIANAPOLIS – Thirty-eight journalism and open government groups have called on President Obama to stop practices in federal agencies that prevent important information from getting to the public.

The national organizations sent a letter to Obama urging changes to policies that constrict information flow to the public, including prohibiting journalists from communicating with staff without going through public information offices, requiring government PIOs to vet interview questions and monitoring interviews between journalists and sources.

David Cuillier, president of the Society of Professional Journalists said, "The practices have become more and more pervasive throughout America, preventing information from getting to the public in an accurate and timely matter. The president pledged to be the most transparent in history. He can start by ending these practices now."

The letter outlines other specific examples of the excessive information control, considered by some as a form of censorship:

• Officials blocking reporters’ requests to talk to specific staff people;
• Excessive delays in answering interview requests that stretch past reporters’ deadlines;
• Officials conveying information “on background,” refusing to give reporters what should be public information unless they agree not to say who is speaking.
• Federal agencies blackballing reporters who write critically of them.

Never before has such a broad-based coalition of journalism and good-governance organizations spoken out on this issue. The growing number of examples of "mediated access" have not just frustrated journalists but have led to specific cases of important information not reaching the public.

Beth Parke, executive director of the Society of Environmental Journalists said, "Our members find that U.S. Environmental Protection Agency press staff routinely block them from getting needed information — even in a public health crisis, even when the agency is rolling out new regulations and it's important to localize the story. Anytime officials suppress information or downplay scientific findings, they are interfering with the public’s right to know. When reporters are ignored, and access is denied, news stories suffer and the public is cheated."

In addition to the letter, the organizations provided the White House with resources on the issue and a list of obstruction examples. They asked the administration to set up an avenue through which such incidents can be reported.

SPJ and SEJ urged journalists to join them in fighting these trends in public and private entities at the national, state and local levels. News outlets can resist these trends by publishing editorials, explaining the tactics in news stories and openly resisting them whenever they occur. They may also submit their own comments to White House web page.

Founded in 1909 as Sigma Delta Chi, SPJ promotes the free flow of information vital to a well-informed citizenry; works to inspire and educate the next generation of journalists; and protects First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and press. A Saint Patrick's Day Wish

May you always have walls for the winds, a roof for the rain, laughter to cheer you, those you love near you and all your heart might desire. Of course, a fifth of Jamison's Irish Whiskey, wouldn't hurt.

Julius Caesar was romantically involved with Cleopatra for 14 years. But he never asked her to marry him. Cleopatra felt betrayed and spent years whining about it in public. That's why she was known as the "Egyptian Taylor Swift."

After he dumped Cleopatra, there were rumors that Julius Caesar fathered an illegitimate child by a housemaid. But those rumors turned out to be false. It was actually Caesar's cousin, Julius Schwarzenegger.

Laugh lines: Three kids were out riding their bikes one afternoon when a fire engine zoomed past with blaring sirens. The three kids noticed a Dalmatian on the front seat of the fire engine.

The first boy said, "They use that dog to keep the crowds back." The second boys said, "No, he’s just for good luck."

The third kid knew better. He said, "No, that’s not it. The dog is there to give them directions to the nearest fire hydrant!"

A country boy came home and found his house on fire. He rushed next door, telephoned the fire department and shouted, "Hurry over here. My house is on fire!"

The fireman replied, "Okay! How do we get there?" The country boy says, "Shucks, don’t you still have those big red trucks?"
