Friday's Here And I'm Already Behind !

My car got a new battery today and I've been running my arse off, so this entry may be a slam bam, thank you ma'am. I'm making a quick entry so that you know we're here, but way behind schedule.

I'm getting ready to go to Krystel's and solve some world problems and maybe flirt a little bit. It's kinda like a "Cheers Bar". Everybody knows everybody and we all usually meet up on Wednesday's and Friday's. My area of the bar (same seat, twenty plus years) we call "Area 51". It's the best corner of the bar and filled with good people, although a bit strange, hence "Area 51". I will tell you something though, sooner or later they all wind up in our area and they don't usually leave. We have a lot of fun. I'll tell you more about it in the future.

The Pictures: Just some drinks for my ladies so they can sit back and relax. Oh, and the "usual suspects".

This Date In History: 330; Constantinople becomes the new capital of the Roman empire. 1858; Minesota becomes the 23rd state 1949; Siam, in Southeast Asia, changes it's name to Thailand.

Birthdays: Irving Berlin, composer (1888) Salvador Dali, Spanish painter (1904).

The Hits Just Keep On Coming:

Depression is merely anger without enthusiasm. No matter where you go, there you are. Change is inevitable, except from vending machines.

That's it for today my little happy hour playmates. More tomorrow. See you at Krystel's.

Think of Thursday As A Bridge Between Wednesday and Friday !

There's some good news occasionally in the daily garbage that permeates the media. Today is one of those days. A ten year old child, in the hospital awaiting a heart transplant donor, suddenly became a candidate as a donor heart was found. Doctors desperately tried to locate the mother and called her home, work and cell phone numbers to no avail. Knowing that time was of the essence, they used GPS to track her cell phone and found that she was at a concert.

The doctors called the venue, spoke with the individuals in charge and advised them of the situation. The conductor of the orchestrta was notified, he stopped the concert and paged the mother over the P.A. system. The concert officials then rushed the mother to the hospital where doctors successfully transplanted the new heart into the young child.

Bits and Pieces from last night at Krystels;  Good to see my friend, Larry, with whom, we successfully solved most of the world's problems. CNN will be notifying you....Melina and I won $8.00 on a lotto scratch-off, which may seem insignificant to you, but we haven't won anything in several weeks....Nice to see Doctor Marc and Rosie last evening. I will be joining them for dinner Saturday night....Thanks to Emilio for coming to my home to jump start my car. I don't know what's wrong with her but I think she's going through menopause because she's overheats quite often and then won't start.

The Pictures: 1) My brother, Kirt. When we were in the gene pool lane, we were asked what color eyes and hair we wanted and Kirt chose blond hair and blue eyes. When they asked me I said, "Nah, just give me the shitty dark brown hair and eyes. Please make sure the hair turns grey as prematurely as possible. 2) Diana Krall, today's featured artist. 3) A picture for Indigo. 4) The "usual suspects".

Here's Diana Krall, today's featured artist performing "Basin Street Blues".

The Hits Just Keep On Coming: Thanks Beverly !

A young woman walked into the confessional and said to the priest, "Father, forgive me for I have sinned." The priest replied, "Confess you sins and be forgiven."

The young woman said, "Last night, my boyfriend made mad passionate love to me seven times." The priest said,"Squeeze the juice of seven lemons into a glass and drink the juice."

The woman asked, "Will this cleanse me of my sins?" The priest answered, "No, but it will wipe that smile off your face."

That's it for today, my little lemonade drinkers. More tomorrow.

Mount The Camels Boys And Girls...It's Humpday !

Ah, Wednesday, How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. You bringeth the sight of yon Friday, looming in the distance. You provideth (That's not a word ! Shut up ! It is now !) a venue from whicheth I can embibe and speaketh el trasho with my friends (Longfellow just rolledeth over in his grave...eth). Surely, my cup will run over or at least increase from B to C. Thank you for existing.

Kudos To: Jeff Ruby, who refused to serve O.J. Simpson at his establishment, Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse on Kentucky Derby day in Louisville. Upon advising Simpson that he wouldn't serve him, tables began to applaud and gave Mr. Ruby a standing ovation. Naturally, Simpson later responded by using the "race" card. He should have used the "asshole" card.

Oback Alabama reported in a speech yesterday that "10,000" perople were killed in the Greenburg, Kansas tornados. Try "12" Oba. In all fairness, the political roads are very tiring, and anyone can slip.

The Pictures: Frank Sinatra, Tonto "Bubba" Goldstein, the "usual suspects" and a picture for Indigo

The Hits Just Keep On Coming: More from Larry the Cable Guy;

How many of you believe in psycho-kinesis? Raise my hand. Why do psychics have to ask you your name? Inside every older person is a younger person wondering, "What the hell happened?" Just remember - if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off. Light travels faster than sound. That's why some people seem bright until they speak. Life isn't like a box of chocolates. It's more like a jar of jalapenos. What you do today might burn your ass tomorrow !

That's it for today, my little. More tomorrow.

Sorry I'm Late !

I know, I'm late. AOL is life's way of telling you to slow down. It's bad enough that I use dial-up, but then AOL continually upgrades my safety and security by sending me new downloads that take 47 days to install, thus effectively turning dial-up into yodeling.

That said, I need to tell you a few things about myself and my journal. I enjoy people and writing, and I always have. The purpose of my journal is to stop me from yelling and screaming obscenities at my television everytime I see something stupid (hey, that could be a song. It already is. Oh!).

One of things that absolutely delights me is humor. I enjoy humor and I also enjoy inserting little things in my journal that you have to really read to understand. Normally in the upper part of my journal, you will see words in blue parentheses. This is me. Since I talk to and answer myself, my alter ego is in green. You should have written the word "green" in green. Shut up! You have to really search the entry because there's always something either between the lines, tongue in cheek, or completely fabricated. There's times that I completely invent things in This Date In History. There are times that I forget the Birthday year of someone, so I just make one up. It saves time on research. Then, there are cryptic and blatant messages for many of my friends. You just have to look for them. Always read the tags and better yet, try clicking some of them. You never know where it will take you. Comments are definitely welcomed and encouraged, if for nothing more than my ego. You're sick! I know, I'm also dyslexci.

In short, my mission is to entertain and amuse you. I hope that I succeed because when I do so, it makes me happy! This leads me to the following story.

A man was on a plane waiting to take off when he noticed a beautiful woman coming down the aisle towards him. His heart raced when she took the vacant seat beside him. Nervously, he said hello and the woman told him she was going to Las Vegas to a nymphomaniac convention.

"I'm a lecturer and I'm going to debunk a few misconceptions of sexual behavior", she said. "Really?, he replied, "What kind of myths?"

"Everyone thinks that African men are the most endowed, when in fact, it's the Native Americans who have that distinction. People think that Frenchmen are the best lovers and it's really Jewish men who are the best. I also discovered that Southern Rednecks have the best stamina".

Suddenly, the woman became unconfortable. " I'm sorry", she said, "I shouldn't be telling you all this. I don't even know your name."

"Tonto", the man said. "Tonto Goldstein, but my friends call me Bubba !"

The Pictures: My little frustrated pal. Then there's the "usually suspects" and some pictures for Indigo.

This Date In History: 1886; Atlanta pharmacist John Pemberton invents Coca Cola. 1945; V-E Day (Victory in Europe) officially goes into effect on the day after Jimmy was born and also Germany unconditionally surrendered to U.S. General Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Birthdays: Harry S. Truman, 33rd President of the United States (1884), Roberto Rosellini, film director (1906).

The Hits Just Keep On Coming: More from Larry the cable guy:

Ok, So what's the speed of dark? When everything is coming your way, you're in the wrong lane. Hard work pays off in the future, but laziness pays off now! How much deeper would the ocean be if there weren't sponges? Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines. What happens when you get scared to death, twice?

That's it for today, my little elves. More tomorrow.

Alright Monday, Let's Get Started !

Let's get this Monday started. I hope everyone had a nice weekend. A lot of things happened this weekend. First and foremost, my heart's out to the city of Greenburg, Kansas, who suffered a devastating tornado that wiped out ninety-five percent of the city and killing twelve people in the area, ten from Greenburg. I have learned that within the last two hours, they found someone alive today in the debris.

Street Sense won the Kentucky Derby going away under the rein of local jockey favorite, Calvin Borel. The colt had an outside starting position and was buried in 19th position in a field of 20 at the start of the race. Borel, with a little luck on the inside, found an unbelievable reserve in Street Sense, rode to the front and won going away. I can't wait until the Preakness in two weeks.

Paris Hilton was sentenced to 45 days in jail for driving with a suspended license. I wonder if they have room "service"?

The "General Lee", the red car they used in the "Dukes of Hazard" sold on Ebay for nearly 10 million dollars. My bid came up a little short of that price. Shithead's bid came closer 'cause he included a box of meow mix with his bid.

The Pictures: Faith Hill, who along with Tim McGraw, is today's featured artist. Some "unusual suspects" today with, hopefully, something for everyone.

Here's Faith Hill and Tim McGraw performing "Let's Make Love".

This Date In History: 1847; The American Medical Association is founded in Philadelphia. 1915; The British ship, Lusitania, is sunk by a German submarine off the coast of Ireland. 1945; James and Rebecca Sullivan give birth toa son, James Jr., who becomes a handsome and successful Real Estate Broker, performing artist and journalist; This same day, German Nazi forces surrender to U.S. General Dwight D. Eisenhower in Rheims, France. 1960; Leonid Brezhnev becomes President of the Soviet Union.

Birthdays: Robert Browning, poet (1812), Peter Tchaikovsky, Russian composer (1840), Gary Cooper, actor (1901), Eva Peron, wife of Argentina's Juan Peron (1911), Johnny Unitas, all pro quarterback (1933).

The Hits Just Keep On Coming: Thanks, Vivian !

From Larry the Cable Guy: A day without sunshine is like night. On the other hand, you have different fingers. Forty-two percent of all statistics are made up right on the spot. Ninety-nine percent of lawyers give the rest a bad name! He who laughs last thinks the slowest. Remember, half the people you know are below average. Support Bacteria, it's the only culture some people have! A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory. If you think nobody cares, try missing a few payments!

It's Your Thing !

It's my thing but, I need to start bringing notes to myself when I go to Krystel's. You know, like, remember you've got a bad hip, so don't dance all night with the ladies. You'd think it would dawn on me after a few times, wouldn't 'ya. Wrong, salsa breath! So, I get up each Saturday (sometimes morning, sometimes not), and do a self examimation.

The first thing I do is look around and make sure I'm at my apartment. Then, I do a quick body exam to make sure all the parts are still there and Ralph's ok. My next move, and I use the word loosely, is to head towards the bathroom to make sure I don't have marks on my head where I usally wear the lampshade as a hat.

Assuming all check points are fine, I then try to recreate the evening in my feeble little mind with the hopes that I didn't do or say anything I could possibly regret or that could be used against me in a court of law. This is followed up with a quick check in my voice recorder on my cell phone as I oft times record messages to myself. Thankfully, I speak fluent Scotch, so I'm able to translate any messages to self.

Well, my little imbibers, last night was no exception and my record remains intact. I first noticed the pain when I opened my eyes. The pain was then aggravated as I limped to the bathroom and the previous evening started to come back to me.

(Fade in...)  I remember singing "After The Loving" with the band and I stepped into the audience and sang the song to Barbie. (Fade out...Blank...then Fade in...) A girl said," Ay, Jimmy, don't spin me so much, I'm getting dizzy". (Fade out...Fade In...) I'm taking off my jacket and hanging it up. (darkness).

Yeah, I did it again. I'm going to make a few calls later to find out if I had fun last night.

The Pictures: The Isley Brothers, today's featured artists, "the usual suspects" and,as always, a picture for Indigo.

This Date In History: 1821; Former French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte dies in exile on the island of Elba., 1921; Chanel No.5, perfume created by Ernst Beaux for Coco Chanel, is launched. 1961; Astronaut Alan Shepard makes a 15 orbit flight becoming the first American to travel in space. 2007; Today is Cinco de Mayo, there's a party at Krystel's and I'm going to try to stay home (...and they're also showing the De La Hoya vs Mayweather fight).

Birthdays: Karl Marx, political revolutionist ,(1818), ,Tammy Wynette, country music singer (1942).

Here's the Isley Brothers, today's featured artists performing "It's Your Thing".

The Hits Just Keep On Coming:

A blind man was walking with his seeing eye dog when they came to an intersection. Ignoring traffic, the dog promptly guided the man into oncoming traffic. Amid horns blaring, tires screeching and people yelling, the man and the dog arrived safely at the other side of the street and the man reached into his coat, pulled out a cookie and gave it to his dog.

Amazed at the man's actions, a bystander said to the man, "Why did you give the dog a cookie after he almost got you killed?"

The man replied, "I'm just trying to locate his head so I can kick him in the ass!"

As Time Goes By !

Somewhere along life's road I seem to have lost certain inane abilities (no, not that one). Simple little things! For some reason, I now have to be very careful when I cough. Why? I don't know, it 's just that way now. If I begin to cough, my whole system seems to think that it's a free-for-all and everyone wants to be a player. Sometimes I'll cough and throw in a sneeze at the same time. Other times, I cough real hard and for some reason, Shithead (my cat) gets up and moves away from me.

I cannot differentiate between my lungs and my stomach. I take a sip of my drink and for some reason it goes into my lungs, forcing me to gasp for air and I think I'm going to die. I recall when we were kids, this same thing would happen to my father and he would get up, put his hands over his head and walk around the room making strange sounds, while at the same time, my dog, Beannie, followed him around the room, smelling the back of his boxer shorts. At the time, we would howl with laughter at the sight of the dog following Dad around the room. I have become my father, but Shithead knows better than to follow me around the room, 'cause I don't wear boxer shorts !

Speaking of walking, my mother started walking for her health at the age of 72. She's 75 now and I have no idea where in the hell she is. The only reason that I exercise at all is to hear the sounds of heavy breathing. I was considering cross country skiing, but it'll have to be a very small country.

The Pictures: Today's featured artist, Duke Ellington and "The ususal suspects".

For the second week in a row, we do not have a winner of the coveted Cat Ass Trophy. In many ways, that's good. There's so many potential winners out there each and every week and it's nice that no one fouled up this week. Fear not, friends, I've no doubt that someone will come out of the woodwork. I hear (A) Rosie O' Fat Ass has a deal in the works that possible will compete with "The View" in the same time slot!

This Date In History: 1932; Notorious gangster Al Capone enters a federal prison in Georgia to begin serving a sentence for tax evasion. 1979; Margaret Thatcher is sworn in as Britain's first female Prime Minister. 1980; Lt. Col Oliver North is convicted of obstruction of justice and destruction of documents in the Iran-Contra affair; it is later overturned.

Today's featured artist is Duke Ellington performing "Satin Doll". It brings back memories because the first song I ever performed in a jazz club was this Ellington classic. Here's Duke Ellington.

Birthdays: Horace Mann, educator (1796), Hosni Mubarak, president of Egypt (1928), Audrey Hepburn, actress (1929).

The Hits Just Keep On Coming: Thanks, Vivian !

The man was walking down the aisle of a store and asked the clerk where the Polish sausage was. The clerk asked the man if he was Polish.

The man said , Why do you ask if I'm Polish? If I asked for rice, would you ask me if I'm Asian? If I asked you for pasta, would you ask if I was Italian? If I asked for kosher hot dogs, would you ask me if I was Jewish?

The stunned clerk clerk said, "No sir, I probably wouldn't." The indignant man blurted, "Why then, do you ask me if I'm Polish when I want to purchase Polish sausages?

"Because, sir,", the young man replied, "This is the Home Depot."

That's it for today, my hot little sausages. See you at Krystel's tonight. More tomorrow.

In My Language

There's no pictures today. No music, quips or remarks. Just chillin' and thinking. It's a little late, but I wanted to work on today's entry so that everyone can digest it no matter what time of day that you read it.

I ran this video a few weeks back and it deeply affected me. I first heard about Amanda Baggs one evening while I was listening to CNN's Anderson Cooper, a person I admire. As CNN is almost always used as a background when I'm not listening to music, I only picked up bits and pieces. When I stopped what I was doing to listen more carefully, the piece was almost over. I jotted down two things that I heard. One was You Tube and the other was the young lady's name.

I didn't pursue it at first, but the little bits I could piece together kept gnawing at me until I realized that I had to find the video. It took me two days to find it and with my trusty dial-up computer, another lifetime to download it to my You Tube site.

After listening to it three times, it dawned on me that there was a depth to this person that no one knew about until she was able to "speak". My first thought was, what would have happened to her if she would not have been able to express her thoughts? Would "they" have put her in an institution?

This thought leads me to many more thoughts. How many people can't say what's on their mind? Imagine if you were speaking English to people everywhere and found that no one anywhere spoke English? Even worse, you could understand everything they said, both kind and unkind, about you and you couldn't reply, couldn't defend yourself, couldn't.....!

I could go on and on ! Watch and listen. Form your own thoughts. I would ask the readers of my journal, especially ones who have many contacts, to let their readers know about this particular lady and her video.

Please be aware that this video is eight minutes long. The first three minutes will be difficult to understand. Amanda will begin to explain it to you after that. The video is also closed captioned. Be patient.

If you ever wanted to leave a comment, but were shy or unsure, just imagine that you wanted to make a comment, but couldn't, and when you tried it read "zhaow,20f;w-f[qwkd" Today, my friends, is the day to make a comment.

That's it for today, my friends. More tomorrow.

Humpday !

Humpday ! For as long as I can remember, that's what we called it. As I was putting my mind into gear for today's entry, I began to think (?) about the connotation of the word, "hump". A camel's got a hump (sometimes two), hills have humps, the Hunchback of Notre Dame had a hump (your ex-girlfriend had a hump! You're getting on my nerves). Then I thought, a dog will hump your leg  (so will your ex-girfriend). I will use the word "hump" in humpday to reflect hitting the top of a hill and beginning the descent of same, as opposed to the young german shepherd's act when you sit down at your friends house to have a beer (surely you rant! Shut up....and don't call me Shirley!).

I'm going to try to put the video of Amanda Baggs, the autistic young lady, in my journal tomorrow. If I can't get it in tomorrow, due to unforseen reasons that perchance may occur this evening at Krystel's, it will be in Sunday's entry.

The Pictures: 1-2) A dog house and a cat house (use your own discretion). 3) Johnny Mathis, today's featured artist 4...) The "usual suspects".

This Date In History: 1519; Leonardo Da Vinci, Italian scientist, sculptor, and painter of the masterpiece, Mona Lisa, dies in France. 1945; Berlin surrenders to Russian Allied Forces in World War II; less than a week later the war would end.

Birthdays: Catherine the Great, empress of Russia (1729), Lorenz Hart, of Rogers and Hart fame, lyricist (1895).

The Hits Just Keep On Coming:

Do Lipton Tea employees take coffee breaks? People seem to read the Bible more as they grow older. I think their cramming for the final exams! Why do croutons come in air-tight bags? Aren't they just stale bread to begin with? Why isn't the number 11 pronounced onety-one? No one ever says,"It's only a game" when their team is winning. Do you ever wonder what the speed of lightning would be if it didn't zigzag? Whatever happened to preparation A through G ?

That's it for today, my little hum....er, german shepherd puppies. More tomorrow.

I Forgot To Remember !

You know, I gotta start reading the notes I leave to myself! Besides my alter ego butting in (who, me? Shut up!), I also leave myself notes, because if I don't write it down when I think of it, chances are it won't come up again until July. As you might have figured out, I have a tendancy to digress, regress, undress, redress and forget if I left the stove on.

Some people may think that this is dementia, but I have had this malady for as long as I can remember, which is two minutes ago. Thankfully, when I get lost writing an entry, I always go back to the top and read what I was writing (he hides his own Easter eggs, too).

That being said, I grabbed my cell phone today to tell some friends I was on my way to join them for lunch and the phone didn't work. It seems someone forgot to pay the cell phone bill yesterday. When I went to the kitchen to use the land line, I saw the note on the refrigerator, in large print, stating very clearly, "PAY PHONE BILL". Seems easy enough, don't 'ya think?

As I chatted the cell phone company representative to turn my phone back on, I grabbed a muffin and and nibbled on it while I resolved the bill. I then noticed another note on the fridge that reminded me to fax a statement to a client and while doing so, I grabbed another muffin (don't get ahead of me) and ate it.

After resolving the phone bill and faxing the statement, the cell phone rang. You got it, Toyota! It was my friends asking where I was. They had been waiting to order until I got there. When I arrived they just starred at me when I ordered soup and a scotch.

The Pictures: Check out these puppies ! There's some exotic ones today also. but then again, what's new? Don't miss the picture I "borrowed" from Indigo, it's great !

This Date In History: 1707; The Act of Union unites England and Ireland as the United Kingdom of Great Britain, both under the Union Jack, the national flag. 1931; The Empire State Building in New York has it's official opening. 1941; Citizen Kane, starring and directed by Orson Welles premieres in New York City. 1967; Elvis Presley marries Priscilla Beaulieu in Las Vegas.

Here's Madeleine Peyroux, a pert little jazz singer, who's today's featured artist. I put the cover of her album in the pictures because that's where I first heard her.

Birthdays: Glen Ford, actor (1916), Scott Carpenter, astronaut (1925), Steve Cauthen, jockey (1960).

The Hits Just Keep On Coming: Thanks to a perfect martini.

Do infants enjoy infancy as much as adults enjoy adultery? Why do we something is "out of whack"? What is whack? If you take an Oriental person and spin him around, does he become disoriented? " I am" is reportedly the shortest sentence in the English language. Could it be that "I do" is the longest sentence? If Fed Ex and UPS were to merge, would they call it "Fed Up"? If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?

That's it for today my little reminders. More tomorrow.
